Pocket Bringhurst
Pocket Bringhurst was a semester long project that I completed in the fall of 2020. As a class, we read “The Elements of Typographic Style” by Robert Bringhurst. This book encompassed all the history a typographer should know as well as the rules of type a typographer should follow. At the end of the semester, each student combiled their chapter notes into a typeset booklet. The assignment required a cover design, typeset front-matter, chapter openers, and a glossary. Students had to demonstrate their knowledge through finding solutions to the widows and orphans that could appear on the spreads as well as make decisions about margin size, line length, typeface, a-heads, etc. A few images of my final design are pictured above.
